Teachers Reject Govt Plea, Vow to Continue Protest

16 APRIL, KATHMANDU – Teachers across Nepal have decided to continue their protest, defying the government’s request to pause demonstrations during the start of the academic year and upcoming national exams.

Despite calls from officials to return to work in the interest of students and parents, the Nepal Teachers’ Federation said it would not back down, accusing the government of offering only “empty assurances” and failing to honor past agreements.

Nanu Maiya Parajuli, Co-Chair of the Federation’s Movement Mobilization Committee, dismissed the government’s education bill as “regressive” and urged teachers not to be swayed by “false rumors and conspiracies.”

She called the movement “decisive” and urged teachers to mobilize in Kathmandu to maintain pressure.

The ongoing protest threatens to disrupt student enrollment, evaluation of SEE exam papers, and the upcoming Class 12 national exams set to begin on April 24.
